Description
The French Polynesia is renowned as one of the world's best destinations for swimming with humpback whales and other marine animals.
The dates of the whale season vary, but we generally observe whales between mid-July and mid-November, although swimming with whales is only permitted from August 1 to November 11.
French Polynesia is one of the few destinations where being in the water with whales is permitted.
Witness them move in their natural environment and share a unique moment with these magnificent giants.
Going in the water and swimming is not mandatory; you can observe from the boat. Our priority is the respect for the mammals and the safety of our passengers.
Our guide will only authorize water entry after ensuring that weather conditions and animal behavior are favorable.
Swimming with whales means swimming in open sea in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The approach rules also require us to swim long distances to discreetly approach the animals.
This activity can be physically demanding and requires swimming ability and efficient use of snorkeling equipment, fins, mask, and snorkel.
Upon our return to the lagoon, we will also stop to swim with stingray and blacktip reef sharks.
This activity takes place on a shallow sandbank in the lagoon where you can stand. This activity is accessible to everyone without specific physical condition.
PLEASE NOTE
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will swim with a whale during your visit. Why? We do not choose to swim with a humpback whale; it chooses to swim with us. We highly recommend being a strong swimmer and very comfortable with snorkeling before entering the water offshore with the whales. Please note that water entry is made 100 meters away from the whales. Depending on sea conditions and the behavior of the whales, the difficulty of the approach may vary significantly. In the event that our passengers are not able to enter the water and follow the group, they will be able to observe the whales from the boat. Our whale excursions take place in open sea. If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend taking precautions before the tour departure.
